The preliminary figures for the gross domestic product (GDP) for the April-June quarter announced by the Cabinet Office on the 15th increased by 0.5% compared to the previous quarter in seasonally adjusted figures, excluding the impact of price fluctuations, and increased by 2.2% on an annualised basis.

With the cancellation of priority measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, personal consumption recovered and boosted the overall economy. Capital investment also increased. The actual amount of real GDP was 542.1 trillion yen, surpassing the October-December quarter of 2019 (540.8 trillion yen) before COVID-19.
